An Interview With Dr. Verret, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Dallas

What is a facelift?

A facelift is a facial rejuvenation procedure aimed to turn back the clock on facial aging. What most people refer to as a facelift addresses sagging in the jowls and sometimes the neck.

What are the benefits of a facelift procedure?

A facelift will help to turn back the clock on facial aging. Wrinkles, excess skin, excess neck fat, turkey waddles , and deep lines of the face can all be addressed with various forms of facelift procedures.

Are there significant risks associated with facelift surgery?

As with any surgical procedures, there are risks associated with facelift surgery. The exact risks will be dependent on the type of facelift performed and a person's individual underlying medical conditions. Bruising and swelling are expected after surgery but exactly how much and how long it lasts are variable. Numbness is also expected in at least the operated areas and the ear. While usually temporary, this may be permanent. The major risks associated with facelift surgery include facial nerve injury resulting in the inability to move all or part of the face. This too may be temporary or possibly permanent but fortunately happens in well less than 1% of facelift surgeries. Bleeding is always a concern and sometimes requires additional surgery to stop.

Can I expect permanent results from a facelift?

To the same extent that you can't predict what you will look like without a facelift in 10 years, you can't predict what you will look like with a facelift after 10 years. There are many factors which affect aging and with or without surgery, these will occur. In general though, the more thorough a surgery performed, the longer the results are expected to last.

What are the objectives of facelift?

The objectives of a facelift are to make a younger, natural look for the face.

What is the basic procedure of Facelift?

The key to a facelift is a natural look by reversing the aging process. To do this, the skin is lifted from the cheeks and sometimes the neck, the underlying structures are pulled up nice and tight, and the skin is laid back down and the excess removed. While this is fairly simplistic, there are many variations to facelift procedures and the amount of improvement and recovery after surgery is dependent on the exact surgical technique used.
