1. What is the basic procedure of Facelift?
A facelift will restore a more youthful look to the face and neck. The skin is tightened, and extra skin is removed. Folds and wrinkles are flattened. More definition is created and the neck is also tightened to improve the contour and remove any neck bands.
2. Can I expect permanent results from a facelift?
A facelift will take years off your look. However, it is not a permanent fix. The appearance should not go back to the pre-operative look, but will continue to age. Skin maintenance will help preserve results.
3. Is there a common technique for facelift procedures?
Most facelift procedures involve tightening and removing extra skin. The deeper structures are also re-suspended to help maximize the results. The benefits are mainly in the lower face, and neck. A mid face lift will improve the appearance in that region. Eyelid and forehead rejuvenation can be performed at the same time to ensure a more harmonious look. Facial fillers and botox, along with skin maintenance will improve results.
4. Who is a good candidate for face lift surgery?
Good candidates are healthy and non smokers. Those with mainly excess skin, who are not too thin or overweight will have the best results.
5. Will face lift surgery eliminate all of my facial wrinkles?
A facelift will not eliminate all wrinkles. The goal is to smooth out the skin as much as possible. Some wrinkles around the mouth for example are often not well treated with a facelift. Deeper grooves such as the cheek folds will be flattened but not necessarily eliminated.
6. Will it be obvious that I have had a face lift?
The goal is to improve your appearance without dramatically changing your look. Scars usually heal very favorably and are often barely visible in front of and behind the ear.
7. What types of face lift surgery are available?
Most facelifts that have results that are significant and lasting will involve an incision around the ear and behind into the hair line. This is the traditional facelift with repositioning and tightening of the deeper structures for support and lift. A mid face lift addresses the central part of the face, eyelids and cheek. A lower face and neck lift addresses aging in that location. Less invasive techniques are available. However, these are not appropriate for everyone and tend to give a less dramatic change and a less permanent result.
