1. What is the basic procedure of face lift?
A face lift essentially loosens up skin from around the ears into the neck, pulls back the extra skin, and then trims off the extra skin around the ears. In some cases, there is suction of fat from the neck and the deeper tissues are tightened as well.
2. Can I expect permanent results from a face lift?
No. a face lift treats the symptoms of the problem (aging) but cannot cure the cause.
3. Is there a common technique for face lift procedures?
The skin part of a face lift procedure is fairly standard amongst all plastic surgeons. Skin must be loosened and lifted. The techniques used under the skin, however, will differ based on what the surgeon feels produces the best long-term result.
4. Who is a good candidate for face lift surgery?
Anyone that has undesired jowling or loss of shape of the neck. If one is young and only has a little bit of jowling and loose neck skin, a limited face lift will suffice. When the neck develops a more obvious wattle, a full face lift is needed.
5. Will face lift surgery eliminate all of my facial wrinkles?
No. a face lift improves the shape of the neck and jowl line. It will not change the amount of wrinkling around the mouth, the eyes, or the forehead.
6. Will it be obvious that I have had a face lift?
If the face lift is done with good surgical technique and judgment, no. Face lifts are only obvious if they are overdone or pulled too tight.
7. What types of face lift surgery are available?
Face lifts come in two basic types, limited (partial) or full (complete). While often given different names for marketing purposes, face lifts are done using these two basic approaches.
