An Interview With Dr. Sheila A. Bond, MD, FACS , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Irvington

1. What do I do to prepare for face lift surgery?

Before surgery you will be asked to list all of the medications you take; discontinue aspirin, vitamin E and diet pills 2 weeks before. If you are a smoker, you will need to stop smoking at least a month before and continue a month after surgery. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you will need to be cleared for surgery by your primary physician

2. What happens at the preoperative face lift appointment?

At the consultation appointment, I will ascertain the areas to be lifted and decide whether you need a full or mini face lift and add any other procedures (necklift, eyelid lift, fat grafts to nasolabial folds, etc.) that may be necessary to achieve the effect you desire.

3. What does informed consent mean?

Informed consent is an in depth description of your upcoming procedure including risks and possible complications that may occur. Each patient must read and sign the informed consent before their surgery.

4. Where will my face lift incisions be?

Depending on which areas of the face need to be lifted, facelift scars can be placed below the temples, along the anterior edge of the ears and back to the lower hairline. The stitches are tiny and will heal almost invisibly and be hidden by most hairstyles.

5. What if I have a history of bad scars?

As soon as the initial wounds heal, we will begin a program of scar control using silicone gels and steroidal tapes.

6. What about my daily medications before face lift surgery?

Patients are advised to discontinue daily medications that may thin blood or delay healing process prior to surgery.

7. I take vitamins and supplements. Do I need to stop them before face lift surgery?

Yes, vitamins and supplements that may thin blood or impede healing have to be discontinued before surgery.
