An Interview With Dr. York Yates, MD , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Layton

1. What types of face lift surgery are available?

There are many alternatives. The basic principles are reshaping the deep tissue and removing and tightening excess skin. This can be accomplished by a variety of scar patterns. All have in common an incision in front of the ear. There are several "branded" face lifts. The most common are the lifestyle lift and quick lift. These are modifications of an "S" lift or MACS lift.

2. Are there other alternative procedures?

Liquid face lift is volume augmentation with facial fillers. Thread lift uses barbed sutures to hold the skin in a lifted position without excess skin incisions. Of course there are limitations to these alternative procedures.

3. Is face lift surgery painful?

Minimally.

4. Can I be awake during face lift surgery?

Yes.

5. What does SMAS stand for?

Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System. This is a layer of deep tissue associated with the muscles of facial expression. Most modern face lift procedures involve tightening of the SMAS.

6. What is an endoscopic face lift?

Using small endoscopic cameras and instruments, a portion, or all of the face lift is done without larger incisions and scars. This is most commonly used in a brow lift.

7. What is the average cost of face lift surgery?

Varies by geography. Roughly $6,000 to $15,000.
