1. What is the basic procedure of Face lift?
An incision is made around the ears and often below the chin. Excess skin is removed and the remaining skin redraped in a more youthful position. The muscles in the neck are usually tightened and often the deep tissues of the face are re-positioned.
2. Can I expect permanent results from a face lift?
All a face lift does is "turn back the clock". With the passage of time the results will diminish and an eventual secondary procedure may be needed.
3. Is there a common technique for face lift procedures?
The techniques for face lift surgery are as varied as the physicians performing them.
4. Who is a good candidate for face lift surgery?
Anyone in good general health with sagging skin of the face and neck. Smokers are considered at significantly higher risk for complications.
5. Will face lift surgery eliminate all of my facial wrinkles?
Face lift surgery only removes excess skin and does little or nothing for facial wrinkles. Wrinkles are best treated with some form of resurfacing or with fillers.
6. Will it be obvious that I have had a face lift?
The results of a face lift depend on the anatomy of the patient and the skill of the surgeon.
7. What types of face lift surgery are available?
There are basically two types of face lifts, full and mini. Full face lifts typically give the most dramatic degree of improvement and the longest lasting results. Mini-face lifts result in a more limited degree of improvement. Heavily marketed procedures such as the Lifestyle Lift and the Wonder Lift are merely mini-face lifts with all the limitations inherent to a less invasive procedure.
