1. What types of face lift surgery are available?
I only perform a standard face lift most often in combination with a SMAS (soft tissue) lift.
2. Are there other alternative procedures?
I have seen many procedures offered such as the"weekend face lift" or thread lift. I do not perform these procedures.
3. Is face lift surgery painful?
As with all surgeries, there will be some pain, but the pain from a face lift is controlled with oral pain medication. If you are having extreme pain after a face lift that may be a sign that there is something else going on such as a hematoma (blood collection) and you should let your plastic surgeon know right away.
4. Can I be awake during face lift surgery?
You can be, but most surgeons perform face lifts under general anesthesia.
5. What does SMAS stand for?
Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System. This is a fancy way of saying the soft tissue immediately under the skin overlying the muscles and parotid gland. It is lifted during a face lift to restore the volume in your face lost during the aging process.
6. What is an endoscopic face lift?
Endoscopy is used as a minimally invasive technique to lift the brow. The brow lift is done using a small camera and 3-5 small incisions within the scalp. A face lift is not typically done endoscopically, usually only the forehead.
7. What is the average cost of face lift surgery?
There are three charges for all surgeries: OR fees, anesthesia fee and surgeon s fee. Each is variable depending on the patient s anatomy, past history, length of time for the operation, etc. One would have to speak to the Plastic Surgeon s office to get an estimate of the costs.
